Lake Shore Students Featured in The Buffalo News for Innovative Bus Maintenance Program ๐๐๏ธ

ANGOLA, NY – Our students are taking "hands-on learning" to a whole new level! Lake Shore Central School District is proud to highlight a recent feature in The Buffalo News showcasing our Bus Fleet Maintenance program.
The program, which is now in full swing, offers juniors and seniors a unique opportunity to step out of the traditional classroom and directly into the district’s bus garage. For two hours each day, these students work alongside professional mechanics to master the "nuts and bolts" of fleet service.
Real-World Experience, Right on Campus
One of the biggest advantages of the program is its location. Instead of spending an hour commuting to an outside facility, our students walk right to the district garage. There, they tackle everything from troubleshooting electrical alarms to maintaining Lake Shore’s new $7.9 million all-electric bus fleet.
"It’s nice to get that workplace experience, being so young," senior Parker Klepfer told The Buffalo News.
A Head Start on College and Careers
This isn't just a high school elective—it's a launchpad. Through a strategic partnership with SUNY Erie (ECC), students in the program can earn college credits while gaining high-demand technical skills. Whether they plan to head straight into the workforce or continue their education, they are graduating with a massive head start.
Instructors Clayton Blasz and Ryan Waters have seen firsthand how quickly the students have adapted. From changing tires to diagnosing complex electrical issues, the goal is for every student to handle these tasks independently by the end of the year.

We are incredibly proud of Avery, Parker, and all the students participating in this career-and-technical education (CTE) offering. Their hard work is a testament to the innovative spirit here at Lake Shore.
