Guidance & Prevention Toolkit

Lake Shore Central Schools provides integrated health frameworks to support student safety and community prevention. These resources are rigorously updated to align with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) protocols and evidence-based medical practices, ensuring a proactive defense against public health challenges.

Prevention Strategy Framework

Our comprehensive prevention strategy is built upon a multi-tiered system of support, designed to move from broad education to targeted life-saving interventions.

1. Awareness

Utilizing age-appropriate curricula to educate students and staff on the physiological risks of substance misuse, identifying early warning signs, and fostering a culture of informed health decisions.

2. Response

Maintaining high-readiness standards by equipping every school building with emergency kits and ensuring specialized personnel are certified in modern intervention and stabilization protocols.

3. Support

Eliminating barriers to care by providing families with direct, confidential pathways to mental health services, recovery networks, and long-term wellness resources without social stigma.

NYS School Health Portal

The NYS School Health Portal serves as the authoritative technical resource for our health coordinators and clinical staff. We encourage families to utilize this portal to access statewide training modules, verified school-based toolkits, and clinical guidance for maintaining a safe and drug-free home environment.

Community Vigilance & Reporting

Effective prevention extends beyond the classroom. Student safety relies on a partnership between the district and our community. We strongly advocate for participation in local "Drug Take-Back" initiatives to remove unused prescription medications from the home.

Confidential Assistance: If you are concerned about a student’s well-being or behavior, please contact your building’s school nurse or social worker immediately. Our clinical staff provides professional guidance and connects families to support systems in a strictly confidential setting.
