Non-Paid Assistant Coach Information
Volunteer Coaching
Protocol and certification requirements for non-paid assistant coaches.
Onboarding Protocol
1. Initial Interest: Athletic Office notifies the program's Varsity Coach.
2. Investigation: Varsity Coach reviews individual background and experience.
3. Recommendation: Varsity Coach recommends candidate to the Athletic Office.
4. Verification: Athletic Office verifies all NYS credentials and certifications.
5. Appointment: Athletic Director recommends a one-year appointment to the Superintendent.
6. Final Approval: Superintendent recommends individual to the Board of Education.
7. Evaluation: Non-paid coaches are monitored by the Varsity Coach and Athletic Director.
Non-Certified Teachers
- Fingerprinting Clearance (NYSED) →
- First Aid & CPR/AED (Valid 2 Years)
- Concussion Training (NFHS) →
- Child Abuse & DASA Workshop
- Violence Prevention (SAVE) Workshop →
- Temporary Coaching License (NYS TEACH) →
- Required Coursework:
- Philosophy & Principles (within 2 years); Health Science & Theory/Techniques (within 3 years).
Teacher Coaches
Excluding Physical Education Teachers
- First Aid & CPR/AED (Valid 2 Years)
- Concussion Training (NFHS) →
- Required Coursework:
- Philosophy, Principles & Organization (2 yrs)
- Health Science Applied to Coaching (3 yrs)
- Theory & Techniques of Coaching (3 yrs)
