Lake Shore Central Schools Leading the Way in Data Privacy and Security

ANGOLA, NY – In an era where digital safety is more critical than ever, Lake Shore Central School District is being recognized as a leader in protecting student and staff information. At a recent meeting, the Lake Shore Board of Education officially recognized Michelle Krieger—the District’s Data Protection Officer and Data Privacy & Security Advisor—for her instrumental work in securing the district's digital landscape.
Under Krieger’s leadership, Lake Shore has earned the distinction of being a Data Privacy & Security Champion. The district doesn't just provide 1:1 devices; it maintains a secure digital ecosystem by strictly adhering to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and New York State Education Law 2-d. These rigorous standards ensure that every student's device is a fortress of privacy, with enterprise-grade encryption protecting data both in transit and at rest.
Education Beyond the Infrastructure
Krieger’s impact extends far beyond technical backend security. In recent weeks, she has been active in the classrooms, delivering vital presentations to students in Mr. Connor’s class as well as Mrs. Arnone’s Academy of Business and Finance. Her sessions focus on the importance of personal data protection—a risk that students across the country face with increasing frequency. By teaching students how to identify and defend their own digital footprints, the district is empowering the next generation to navigate the internet safely and responsibly.
National Expertise, Local Impact
Krieger’s expertise is also reaching a national audience. She recently co-authored the book "From Chalk Dust to Digital Trust: A Guide in Data Privacy and Security for K-12 Leaders." The publication serves as a roadmap for educational leaders to move beyond simple compliance and toward a culture of digital trust and resilience.
