Nate Skibinski Breaks Lake Shore Career Goals Record in Overtime Win

ANGOLA, NY – Senior captain Nate Skibinski scored both goals in Lake Shore's 2-1 overtime win over Cheektowaga Thursday night, setting a new school record for career goals.
Friends, family and community members braved the chilly October weather to line the field for the regular season finale. Nate came into the night with 56 career varsity goals. The school record of 57 had belonged to Wade Bergum, Class of 2014, for more than a decade. One goal would tie it. Two would make it his.
Nate, who wears No. 12 for the Eagles, wasted little time. He scored in the first half to put Lake Shore up 1-0 and tie the record. Cheektowaga answered at the end of the second half to even the score, and the game headed to overtime.
A Finish Worth the Wait
It was an incredible game, and it ran late into the night. With about one minute left in overtime, Lake Shore earned a penalty kick. Nate stepped to the spot and buried it. The goal won the game and gave him the record outright, with 58 career varsity goals.
The fans who stuck it out through the cold got to see a piece of Lake Shore history. As the team's only senior, Nate has led the Eagles all season. Now he is the program's all-time leading scorer.
“With his two goals, Nate has set a new school record for most total goals scored. Sectional play starts next week, great job boys!”
Paul Taylor, Boys Varsity Soccer Coach
The win closes out the regular season for the Eagles. Sectional play begins next week, and the team will be looking to carry Thursday's energy into the postseason. Congratulations to Nate and the whole Boys Varsity Soccer team.
