IT’S OFFICIAL: Lake Shore Breaks Ground on $20.3M Phase 2 Capital Project

ANGOLA, NY – The transformation of the Lake Shore Central School District has officially begun. On February 17, the district marked the start of the $20.3 Million Phase 2 Capital Project with a high-energy groundbreaking ceremony at the High School athletic complex.
In a symbolic move that signaled the immediate start of construction, Superintendent Phil Johnson and the district leadership team bypassed the traditional ceremonial shovels. Instead, they took up sledgehammers to begin the demolition of the outdated press box, clearing the path for a new era of student facilities.
A Vision for the Future
Approved by voters in May 2023, Phase 2 is built on two primary goals: modernizing the student learning environment and creating a pro-level athletic hub.
Key upgrades coming to the campus include:
-
Modernized Learning: High School classroom renovations featuring LED lighting and the installation of air conditioning.
-
Premier Athletics: A total overhaul of the athletic campus, including multi-sport turf fields.
-
Expanded Fan Experience: New grandstands with a capacity for over 1,600 spectators.
"Taking these first steps to replace our aging facilities is about more than just construction; it’s about keeping our promise to the next generation of Eagles," said Superintendent Phil Johnson. "While we all cherish the history of these grounds, we owe it to our students to provide a home that matches their hard work and ambition."
Commitment to Taxpayers
The district has remained steadfast in its promise of fiscal responsibility. The $20.3 million project is being funded through New York State building aid and voter-approved capital reserves, resulting in a $0.00 additional tax impact for Lake Shore residents.
“Our goal was to maximize the value of every dollar,” noted Johnathan Perry, Business Manager. “We are making a generational leap in our campus facilities while maintaining the fiscal stability our community deserves.”
Timeline & Logistics
Work is scheduled to move in phases through Summer 2027. By coordinating construction around the academic calendar, the district aims to minimize disruptions to student life. Residents can expect to see significant progress on the athletic fields beginning this spring.
