Seneca 5 Students Master the Art of the

Tradition in the Kitchen
On Friday, March 20th, Seneca 5 students at Lake Shore Central Schools took part in a hands-on learning experience that brought together language, culture, and cooking. The class focused on crafting "Scon Dogs"—a popular treat featuring hot dogs wrapped in delicious, golden frybread.
In Seneca, these are known as Ga:hgwagi:'danö:höh oishädai:ëh. Throughout the lesson, students practiced their language skills while learning the physical techniques of measuring, mixing, and frying the dough to perfection.
A Community Connection
The experience was made even more special by guest Alexis Stevens, mother of Lake Shore Senior Payton Stevens. Alexis joined the class to share her expertise, guiding students through every step of the process. This collaboration is a perfect example of our community coming together to pass down traditions to the next generation.
Nya:wëh to Alexis for her time and for helping our students stay connected to their culture through such a tasty tradition!
